Lunch can be en route or at camp. This exclusive camp of just 12 luxury tents has a lovely setting within the Reserve, on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River surrounded by doum palms and indigenous trees and shrubs. After an afternoon / early evening game drive, we will stop for drinks at a scenic point to watch the sun go down over the African wilderness. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 3 – Samburu National Reserve

This morning, we wake up early for a morning game drive to explore Samburu National Reserve on the look-out for elephants and big cats as well as the unusual animals for which Samburu is noted such as the endangered Grevy’s Zebra and the Reticulated Giraffe. Breakfast and lunch at camp. In the afternoon we take another game drive in this beautiful landscape. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Samburu National Reserve offers a breathtaking sun baked landscape surrounded by mountains – to the west, the sheer sided slopes of majestic Ol Olokwe Mountain form a perfect back drop to any photograph. Animals commonly seen are elephants, lions, cheetahs, grevy zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks, buffalos, oryx, grants gazelles, dikdiks and waterbucks. There are over 350 varieties of birds. These include the famous somali ostriches (distinguished by their unique purple / blue legs during mating season), kingfishers, humming birds, eagles, guinea fowls and vultures. The reserve is also home of the Samburu tribe, cousins of the Maasai, who share the same nomadic, cattle-herding existence and a strict adherence to their age-old rites and customs.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 4 – Great Rift Valley / Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, we set off towards the stunning scenery of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Check in to Mbweha Safari Camp for 2 nights. Mbweha is a high quality safari camp set on the private 6400 acre Congreve Conservancy near the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park and has spectacular views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. We will take an escorted nature walk from Mbweha for a close-up view of the local flora and fauna.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

    Day 5 – Lake Nakuru

Early breakfast at Mbweha Safari Camp and then set off with a picnic lunch for a full day to explore the Lake Nakuru National Park which is famous for the spectacular pink flamingos that gather on its salt encrusted shores (NB numbers depend on the season) as well as for other bird species including African fish eagles and pelicans. The woodland and grassland surround the soda lake are home to an abundance of wildlife including black rhino, white rhino, hippo, leopard, lion and the rare Rothschild giraffe. Dinner and overnight at Mbweha Safari Camp.

Lake Nakuru National Park is world famous as the feeding ground of both lesser and greater flamingos. Lake Nakuru was crowned a national park in the sixties. It was estimated then that there were at times more than a million flamingos. Ornithologists describe it as “the most fabulous bird spectacle in the world.” Besides the more than 400 species of birds that can be seen in the park there are hippos, reedbuck, waterbuck, black rhino, giraffe, lion, leopard, bushbuck also present.
