  • Day 01 – Tokyo – Haneda

    Stay 1 night at the Haneda Excel Airport Hotel Tokyo, which is around 10 minute walk from airport.

    Meals included: Nil

    Day 02 – Tokyo – Haneda / Komatsu / Kaga Onsen

    Fly from Tokyo – Haneda to Komatsu. Upon arrival, transfer to your ryokan in Kaga Onsen. This afternoon, have time at leisure.

    For guests staying in Yamanaka Onsen
    Take the Kakusenkei Gorge self-guided walk through beautiful forest setting to see hidden shrines, peaceful tea houses and finally ending in a charming village.

    For guests staying in Yamshiro Onsen
    Explore Yamashiro Onsen town with temples, old bath houses and take walking trail for a panoramic view and visit the former house of Rosanjin – a famous ceramist. Alternatively, order a taxi from the ryokan to go to Yamanaka Onsen for the Kakusenkei walk.

    Return to your ryokan to enjoy a relaxing time in both private and public thermal baths.  A Gourmet Kaiseki dinner will be served.

    Day 03 – Kaga Onsen / Kanazawa

    This morning, transfer to Kanazawa and visit the Kenrokuen garden, one of the three most beautiful landscape gardens in Japan.

    Then, we head to Omicho Market, with 170 seafood stores! We recommend trying “Kaisendon”, the local specialty made of an assortment of Sashimi (raw fish) on top of rice.

    Move on to the ancient district of Higashiyama Geisha District with Kanazawa’s feudal heritage with wooden lattice. Next, visit Kaikaro, a traditional “teahouse”, where Geishas used to and still entertain their clients. Enjoy the privileged opportunity to meet with the “Okami-san” (house manager) around a cup of tea and get a better understanding of the world of Geisha.

    Then, discover one of Kanazawa’s oldest Sake breweries and the owner will show you the process of sake brewing before having a tasting session.

    Check into your hotel this evening.

    Hiking alternative:  Replace half day of cultural visit with a half day hike from one side of the mountain where the Utatsuyama Temple district is. Take a quiet course of fairly steep ascend, through cheery trees field and beautiful bamboo forests towards Kanazawa

    Day 04 – Kanazawa / Shirakawa-go / Takayama

    This morning, visit the Samurai district of Nagamachi. Walk through the traditional town in tranquil setting, visiting Nomurake, a former Samurai House and the surrounds of this ancient district.Then, visit the 21st century Museum of Contemporary Art, an architecturally striking building featuring up-coming Japanese artists.

    The highlight of today is Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses. Visit the Open-air museum for a closer look at the farmhouses without crowds. Next, continue to Takayama for your Ryokan stay.

    Day 05 – Takayama

    After breakfast, visit the farmers’ morning market along the river before reaching the Sanmachi’s historical district. See former old merchant houses that have been preserved and turned into museums, shops and sake breweries. Visit Takayama Jiniya, which served as a government office from Edo period until 1969.

    After lunch, head to Takayama Yatai Kaikan – float festival museum – which houses several of the most important floats from the 17th century use during the traditional festival. (If time allows, take some time at leisure to walk the peaceful 3.5 km course around the Higashiyama Temple Area)

    Hiking/Biking alternative:  Take a full day Hida-Takayama hike (or biking trip) with a native guide who will take you through the countryside, explaining the local fauna and flora & ecosystems, as well as the traditions of the mountain villages.

    Day 06 – Takayama / Nagoya

    After enjoying breakfast followed by hot-spring bath, depart to Takayama Station and board the direct train (First class) to Nagoya. Upon arrival in Nagoya, check-in at the Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel, located directly above the station. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore.

    Day 07 – Nagoya

    Depending on your departure time, check-out of your hotel and proceed to the station (just below hotel). Transfer by train to Centrair (Central Japan International Airport – buy the ticket on the spot). (An airport assistant can be arranged upon request to assist you with check-in & luggage).
