  • Day 01 – Lijiang

    Upon arrival in Shangri-la, transfer to your hotel and have the rest of the evening at leisure. Explore Lijiang Old Town on a walking tour through its lovely backstreets, carefully sidestepping the heavily-touristic main thoroughfare.

    Meals included: Nil.

    Day 02 – Lijiang

    In the morning, take a cable car to Glacier Park (weather-dependent) and get up close with the glaciers. At 4,506m, it is one of the highest cable car stations in the world. An oxygen canister is provided for each person but extra canisters are available for purchase and warm clothing for rent if you wish N.B. In the event that a visit is not possible due to poor weather conditions, visit Blue Moon Valley instead, known for its natural white water terraces.

    Return in time to enjoy the “Impression Lijiang” show, choreographed by the famous Chinese director Zhang Yi Mou, involving more than 500 hundred dancers in their best ethnic costumes plus horses performing outdoor with the Jade Dragon Mountain as a stunning backdrop.

    Day 03 – Lijiang / Tiger Leaping Gorge / Lijiang

    Today, make an excursion to the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Tucked in between the 2 giants, Jade Dragon Mountain and Haba Mountain, this is one of the longest, deepest and narrowest gorges in the world. The drive from Lijiang is about 1½ hours and you will enjoy an hour of hiking by the gorge.

    After lunch and a short detour en route back to Lijiang, visit the villages of Longquan, Baisha (for the murals) and Yuhu (Jade Lake) as well as the home of explorer Joseph Rock.

    After lunch, return to Lijiang and have the afternoon at leisure to explore the Old Town on your own.

    OPTIONAL ALTERNATIVE: HORSE-TREKKING (Not suitable for Children below 12)
    Enjoy a 4-hour horse trek around the valley into the surrounding mountain, allowing you to experience the landscape of the ancient Tea Horse Trail. Journey across villages, canola fields, pine forests, ancient trees and quiet temples peacefully set outside of the city. You will be accompanied by your horse trek guide, who will give you guidance and help to lead the horses the entire way.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

    Day 04 – Lijiang / Geladan

    After breakfast, drive approx. 2hrs to Geladan. Kingsway Tented Resort is located in the lush grasslands. Lunch is served between 1130h-1330h. Have most of the afternoon to take deep breaths and enjoy the fresh air in your spacious and natural environment. At 1730h, get ready to take an ATV quad bike to the sea of flowers to enjoy the mountain scenery. Return to the camp for dinner served between 1830h-2000h.

    **Note : Kingsway Tented Camp is closed yearly in Winter. Alternative arrangements will have to be made.

      DAY 04 Lijiang/ Qiaotou / Old Tea Horse Guesthouse

      Drive about 1½ hours from Lijiang to Qiaotou. From here, pick up your pony that will carry your luggage and start your trek. In the morning, the trail rises, alternating between forest and cultivated farmland. After lunch, it is the most challenging part of the trek as the trail rises steeply with “28 bends” to the top of the ride. From here on, you hike high up the valley along the gorge with the gushing river deep below. The view of the gorge and the Jade Dragon Mountain is stupendous from here on. Arrive at Old Tea Horse Guesthouse, your accommodation for the night. This family-run guesthouse offers simple clean room with attached shower and toilet.

      DAY 05  Old Tea Horse Guesthouse / Lijiang

      Continue along the gorge enjoying more beautiful scenery for another 2 hours until Half-way from Guesthouse. Start your descent through lovely cultivation and villages for another 2 hours to Tina Guesthouse where your transport awaits to take you back to Lijiang.

      Day 04 – Lijiang / Tengchong

      Transfer for your flight to the hot spring region.

      Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel. Soak all your weariness and troubles away in the resort’s many geothermal pools (included in your stay).

      Day 05 – Tengchong / Lijiang

      Make a trip to the Tengchong Volcano National Geology Park with Cenozoic-era volcanoes, and the biggest group of volcanoes in China, to learn about the volcanic movements of the region. Visit Hesun old town. Return to Lijiang in the afternoon.

      Optional: Hot-air ballooning over Tengchong Volcano Park (20 minutes)

    Day 05 – Geladan / Tacheng

    Enjoy a leisurely breakfast served between 0800h-1000h. Go on an invigorating forest hike and feast on a barbecue lunch. Transfer back to camp before driving approx. 2hrs to Tacheng (2,000m above sea level) through a beautiful plateau dotted with Tibetan villages.

    Upon arrival in Tacheng, check-in to a lodge in the Qibei Haba village, built on a hill with stunning views of the valley, mountains and rice terraces.

    Day 06 – Tacheng

    Explore Baima Snow Mountains Nature Reserve in search of the exclusive snub-nose golden monkeys.  Enjoy a picnic lunch at the scenic spot. Hike to a local Lisu village to experience the daily life of the Lisu people in a rural setting and taste their traditionally-made honey.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner

    Day 07 – Tacheng / Shangri-La

    After breakfast, drive 3 hours (90km) to Shangri-la. At 3,200m, acclimatization is essential. It’s recommended to take things slowly.

    Visit the Songzanlin Monastery – the largest Tibetan Buddhist lamasery in Yunnan Province and one of the 13 famous monasteries of Tibetan Kham. The monastery was built in 1674 with the support of the Fifth Dalai Lama and Emperor Kangxi. Have a cup of tea at a tea house and learn about the history and legend of the Tea and Horse Caravan Road, stop by small shops to find yak cheese and Tibetan rugs from nearby villages.  Also visit local and NGOs who are making efforts to protect the local culture.

    Day 08 – Shangri-La

    Transfer to airport for flight home.
